 Login with tcsh

I prefer to use the tcsh and selected it as the login shell.
Unfortunately, neither .login nor .cshrc are read in. This holds both in
tty mode and in X mode. Has anybody an idea what could be the reason for
this behavior?

Rename your .cshrc file to .tcshrc and it should work.
I don't know about .login
