 floating point exception in TOP

I have just installed Linux 2.0.0 and noticed the top command
has stopped working.  When I type top, I get the following..

  4:32pm  up 14 min,  4 users,  load average: 0.11, 0.15, 0.09
39 processes: 0 sleeping, 0 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states:  5.4% user,  0.0% system,  5.4% nice, 94.6% idle
Mem:      0K av,     0K used, 3145726K free,    24K shrd, 3145726K buff
Swap:    24K av, 3145726K used,     0K free

Floating point exception

What could be the problem?  Is there an incompatibility with the
version of the top executable with linux 2.0.0?  Has anyone else
experienced this with 2.0.0?

Thanks in advance!

Have you read /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes ?

You should upgrade to at least procps-0.99a (a is for the patch)

But procps1.01 is out also.

The problem is you didn't RTFM, /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes.

The /proc file format has changed and therefore, top breaks.  Upgrade to the
newest version of procps   (1.01) and that will fix the problem.
