I recently installed Red Hat 7.2 and I'm wondering which antivirus I
should install on it
N.B. My PC is just a regular workstation.
Thanks

I went to a Grateful Dead Concert and they played for SEVEN hours.  Great song.

You don't need any antivirus software.  Just do not login as 'root'.
Set up a user account and always log in using that account.  Back up
your /home/user_name directory often.

http://search.symantec.com/custom/us/query.html

There are 67 entries in Symantec's virus database for the searchword Linux.
The idea that Linux is immune is a pure fallacy.

Nada. Linux happens to be relatively impervious to virii. Just setup a
good firewall using iptables, and check http://www.linuxsecurity.com every
few days for the latest updates.

I think you might be confusing "virus" with "root-hack" or "worm".

More info : I do have a dual boot with Windows2000 et I will access
windows partition from linux  ...
I know unix systems are not the main target on virus maker but still, it
does not hurt to have an antivirus running, does it ?
My company recently suffered a lot with nimda worm so I don't want to
catch nor propagate this kind of  thing anymore ...
Any suggestion ? What about panda software antivirus ?

Some windows software runs on Linux via WINE. However, you
have to _explicitely_ run the software. The fact that you
may access stuff on your W2K drive does not mean it will
run on Linux. Therefore you are _safe_ from nimda and the
rest.

HTH.

It seems to me that there are two possible obvious classes  of risks -

One is attack on Linux itself which seems to be mercifully rare, at
least for now, so most of us choose to ignore it.

The second is attack on microsoft boxes which might access the net via a
Unix gateway.  Is there anything that that can scan mail queues  ( and
maybe interact with sendmail ? )  to keep an eye on mail that's passing
in and out of your site ?  That might have some value !

Cheers, J/.
