 No Xvidtune in RH 6.0???
What happened to Xvidtune that used to be in 5.2?  I just installed 6.0
today and am amazed at how well it went, or at least I thought.  How do you
adjust the position and size of the picture after you set up X?  Oh, the
pain.  When will it end?  I thought I was on my way to becoming a seasoned
linux user till I got 6.0.  Thanks.

Thanks Bob, that did the trick, but, how do you get the settings saved after
you find out what they are.  My 6.0 doesn't seem to have the XF86Setup
utility that prompts you to run xvidtune at the end.  I need to find a way
to save the settings.  Thanks.

XF86Setup is in /usr/X11R6/bin/.
It comes with XFree86-XF86Setup-3.3.3.2-49.i386.rpm (probably with other
versions too).
Once you use xvidtune, save the settings in XF86Config. It's under /etc/X11.
Before you change it, make a backup copy, if you have somewhat reasonable
settings. If everything is ok you can then delete the backup.

Hit the "Show" button; the modeline parameters will be output to
the screen.  You can then edit /etc/XF86Config and insert them into
a suitable Modeline.  If you're already in X, you can pick up and later
drop the output by clicking the mouse.

To run XF86Setup, just install the XFree86-XF86Setup rpm.

Ed,
I'm hoping you have the answer by now.  I had problems in 5.2 and now in 6.0.
My display is 1/2" larger than the monitor.  When I use "xvidtune" I can get
the corrected numbers, but where do they go?
Actually it is "  /usr/X11R6/bin/xvidtune"  Exactly.  I don't think there is
any "Xvidtune".  It works, but like I said, I dont know what makes it
permanent.  I'm running GNOME.  I like it and it was the first thing that came
up.

On Wed, 07 Jul 1999 19:38:37 GMT in comp.os.linux.setup, Charles P

wisdom:

Whenever I've wanted to make changes with Xvidtune and have them
stick, I do it by running XF86Setup (as root), clicking done, then
clicking the "Run Xvidtune" button that comes up, then make my
changes, then once I'm done, I quit out of Xvidtune, and click the
Save Changes button. You can do this either from the command line, or
in X.

/etc/X11/XF86Config
No need to rerun XF86Setup. Just use any text editor and enter the settings from
xvidtune by hand.
