FYI - Install RH 5.2 on large HDs
Just solved a tricky problem and thought there would be some interest.
Problem:
New PC with >8.4G hard drive with Win95b or Win98 - used Partition Magic
4.0 to create a new extended partition to receive Linux root and swap
partitions. Installed RH 5.2 by booting from CD-ROM. When you use Disk
Druid to specify the mount points, it doesn't recognize the extended
partition so you can't specify the mount points.
Solution:
RH 5.2 errata mentions a new version of Disk Druid which can recognize
extended partitions in Win98 (or Win95b). New boot.img and supp.img disks
are available for downloading. However, if you're installing from CD-ROM,
RH5.2 doesn't ask for the supp disk.
To get RH5.2 to ask for the supp disk, choose Expert installation at the
install problem. After a couple of screens you'll see the installation
type and a new checkbox - "Force supplemental disk". Check this box and RH
will prompt for the supp disk and continue on with the installation.
Now, the new version of Disk Druid will run which recognized the extended
partition and everthing works as advertised.
During Expert installation, you get a few more prompts (for mouse and
display driver) but it's still easy to figure out...

Now, if XFREE would get out the X server for S3 Trio3D, all would be well
in Linux land...
