what's with the floating point exception with new kernels

I just compiled 1.3.100 on a P60 (yeah, with the pentium bug)
I can't run top, ps -axu.  I got "floating point exception" error.  I don't
think that is caused by the pentium bug because I have seen the same
behavior on my Dell P75 running 1.3.54, which does not have the bug, and I
have also seen messages from other people with the same problems.

Does anyone know how to fix  this?
One last piece of info.  I am using Gcc 2.6.3 ;(, and I have to get rid of
all the alignment option when compiling the kernel.

Knowledge IS Power! ........
Where do I want to go tomorrow?
