 Boot error L 04

I'm a Linux newbie, and have run into an installation problem.

When it boots, it puts up LI 04, and then repeats the 04 infinitely.

I can't find reference to this in the FAQ or installation instructions.

I'm running Slackware, and theoretically successfully set up and configured
everything.

The one problem I had after finishing installation was "invalid partition
table", which turned out to be because both the DOS and Linux partitions
were "Active".  I removed the DOS partition and recreated it, since FDISK
(for DOS) wouldn't let me mark it inactive, and
reformatted it, which solved that problem but stuck me at the one above.

Where can I find references to the above problem, and how can I fix it?
Thanks

 Boot error L 04

This happens when a boot image has changed.  If you built a new kernel, or
reinstalled DOS, or whatever is on one of you other partitions.

Put in you linux boot disk and boot from that.  Once up run /sbin/lilo.
That should fix it.
