What is a sig 11 error?
Just out of curiosity, what is a signal 11 error?
I keep finding it come up when software crashes and would like to know what
this actually means.

What is a sig 11 error?

It means, that a program tried to use some memory, it wasn't supposed
to. Usually it means that there is a bug in the program.

If it comes up many times in many programs, that others do not have the
same problem with, it could mean a bad memory block.

This is a memory segment violation, which means that your
program tried to access a segment of memory to which it
had no rights.

This is either (a) a bug in the software, or (b) bad
hardware rearing its ugly head, usually bad memory.

If you're curious about the various signals that are
handled in the Linux/UNIX world, do

  man 7 signal
