Differences between binary & ascii modes in ftp
Binary mode will transfer a file exactly as it is - no changes.
ASCII mode will translate character sets and end-of-line characters
according to the operating systems at each end of the transfer (e.g NT uses
newline-carriage return pairs at the end of each line while Unix only
requires neline characters). If both operating systems are the same (e.g.
Unix<->Unix) then the default mode will be binary anyway as no translation
will be needed.
executables are transferred in binary mode and text files are transfeered
usually in ascii mode. But what exactly, is the difference.
