howto make a statusbar in bash

hello,

can someone give me an example how to build something like a statusbar or
progressbar in bash? something like a pair of brackets [] moving from side
to side or anything else that shows the user something if a long operation
is made. maybe there is a guru with a tricky piece of code ;).

dont blame me for my poor english.

Hello all,
Usleep works well, however you have to set it in the thousands before its really
visible.
9000 makes it spin nicely.

What 'usleep' ? I don't think this is standard UNIX, at least it doesn't
exist as a shell command in SunOS 4 or 5.7.
