 Monitoring disk performance/usage in HP-UX
I have a couple of users who are complaining about the level of
disk usage that other users are "hogging" on "their" machines.  They
seem to think that they are getting the shaft.  What I'd like to do
is monitor disk usage and throughput, page faults and stuff like
that.  I'd like to find a running average over a number of days and
perhaps one for a several-hour period as well.

Are there any good utilities out there, either part of the OS or
freely available, to help me do something similar to this?  (We're
running HP-UX 9.01 and no, upgrading isn't currently an option.)  I
know of a lot of ways to check CPU usage, but it's harder to gather
statistics (i.e. not just "current snapshots" of usage) for disk
utilization.  TIA to all who reply...

Look at the man pages for iostat and sar.  They should be
helpful in your quest.  If you have a few bucks to spend, then
I suggest that you invest in the HP MeasureWare product.  It
will generate historical data of the type I think you are
looking.  It will also generate some nice charts to impress /
awe your management with.

Check out sam. It has the capability to look at disk info and log
to a file or a printer.
