 DOS / LINUX server
I want to set up Linux as a file/print server. We currently have NT with 4 DOS
clients. I want to set up Linux with 5 DOS clients. I plan I killing NT as soon
as I get something else up and running. Should I use Samba? What is the best
file/print server for Linux to use with DOS clients? Where do I get the client
software?
Thanks ROn

I recommend using Samba. There is a free(!) DOS client from
Microsoft (check out http://samba.anu.edu.au for the right link).
However, the MS client will need a lot of conventional DOS memory.
So, if this is a problem, you might want to check out the
Novell server emulation for Linux (MARS_NWE) and an appropiate
client for the DOS-machines (I think there is a DR-DOS version
freely available that include a Netware client. Does anyone have
more information on this one?

Caldera bought Novell DOS (which they bought from Digital Research).
Caldera called it OpenDOS, but it's now back to DR-DOS.  You can go to
http://www.caldera.com and download.  Free for *non* commercial use.  It
includes the Netware Client Kit (VLMS) for access to Netware file servers.
Should work fine for connecting to a linux box running MARS_NWE.

Yes. You should read the SMB-Howto .

If the software you're already using on clients support TCP/IP, you can
use it whith a Samba server. If not:

http://carol.wins.uva.nl/~leeuw/samba/dos.html

On SMB issues, there is the newsgroup news:comp.protocols.smb

Hope this helps.
