NMIS (Network Management Information System); Sending Alerts
For managaging cisco routers and switches I am running
NMIS (Network Management Information System).

According to NMIS help -> Event Policy, it should be
possible to send alerts.

I am wondering how to arrange this as configuring the rest
of the system went rather smooth.

Hopefully one of you has got this working and can
explain how to set this up.

Kind regards,
Xantos N.

NMIS (Network Management Information System); Sending Alerts
Follow up:

For managaging cisco routers and switches I am running
NMIS 2.00.

According to NMIS help -> Event Policy, it should be
possible to send alerts.

According to NMIS features:
"Notification engine can be expanded to handle any "command line"
notification method, including email, paging, signs, speakers, etc."

Sofar I would be pleased to start with an email alert.

I am wondering how to arrange this as configuring the rest
of the system went rather smooth.

Hopefully one of you has got this working and can
explain how to set this up.

Kind regards,
Xantos N.

NMIS (Network Management Information System); Sending Alerts
This is the first I heard of NMIS so I checked out the web site.  Looks cool.

Basically as a rule, you don't want to just execute a command as a result of an
alarm.  Too many emails or pages is worse than no notifications.

You want to execute a script when the alarm occurs.  The script should create a
keyed file name based on alarm, node, etc.  You can make sure that you don't
notify about the same thing twice and you can also notify only one time per time
period per node.

Just a thought.
