 Installing LinuxPPC Q3 on B&W G3

I'm trying to install LinuxPPC Q3 from cdrom onto my B&W G3 rev2.

The installer runs, and linux comes up from the ram disk.  Then I
start to see weird things.

When I go to install packages, the only options I have are Basic and
Miscellaneous... I don't see all the categories shown in the install
guide.  But it looks like Miscellaneous has most of the rpms, so I
install them.

Setting the password: I see an error in the output to the effect of
"cannot execute pwconv".  Any ideas what this means?

Now I reboot.  All I get is "no init found" and "Try passsing
init= to kernel"  Is there a solution for this?  Is there a BootX
option I can send in, or a config file to modify to locate the
init?

Thanks

Sounds like you might have a bad CD.  Like all material things, they can
occasionally be defective. You should get ~15 categories.

Can you try it again?  If it's still only giving you two cats, contact
me about replacing your CD.  (If you bought it from us or an official
distributor, that is.)

Are you setting the root device in BootX?

Also, I strongly recommend reading Robert Shaw's Blue G3 guide before
installing:

I'm getting the same type of problem I think.

Freeing unused kernal memory ...
Warning uable to open an initial console
Kernal panic: No init found. Try passing init= to kernal.

I'm a total newbie let me know if you find a fix.

Make sure you specify the boot partition in BootX, and if it still
doesn't work for you, what finally worked for me was using the RedHat
installer.  (Pass redhat in the BootX parameter list)

The RedHat installer worked fine.  I have no idea why, but it did.

I got a replacement CD from the LinuxPPC folks last night and the X
installer ran fine on this one.

The disk was shipped promptly, but it took a while to get here... but
then almost all my mail is delayed. (The USPS must have a grudge against
me... ;)

A great big thank you to Jason and the rest at LinuxPPC, I really
appreciate the excellent support I've gotten.
