LinuxPPC '99 B&W G3 Install Woes
Hi,
I recieved my Linux PowerPC 1999 2 Cd set and promptly deciding to install
today. I created three partitions. 1 hfs+ for MacOS 8.6 another hfs and also
another normal hfs (all about 2 gigs). I pop in the cd, fire up the blue and
white g3 kernel which would be appropriate with my ide based b&w g3. I start
up bootx and use the default x installer ramdisk with all the default
options in bootx. Except I flipped on the "No video driver" option. So I hit
the Linux button and start seeing some normal kernel output and machine
checks. However, I did get a pretty long machine check on my ide harddrive
after a partition check timed out i think. Well anyway after these were over
I did get to something like a linuxPPC installer message with a Welcome but
X did not fire up, and I never got into the installer. I just got a whole
mess of extra machine checks that went on for 3+ more minutes. So I just
decided to reboot the comp and restart the whole process. Again, I got the
same results.
Have any of you guys had any of the results I have with a B&W pci ide based
g3. What am I doing wrong, how do I fix this. I want my linuxppc:) Im tired
of running over across the room to my redhat box whenever I want to do
something in linux:(
Well,
Thanks for any help in advance.
Emails would be greatly appreciated
