Has anyone else experienced any similar (or otherwise)
problems with the ftp site? I've not encountered any such problems
using Netscape to access other ftp sites.

Oh yeah, I've had that problem a lot myself. I'm not sure how (or even if)
I fixed it. I may have used Netscape under Linux, or IE, or possibly just
fetch. I do think I was finally able to access it, though.

Yeah i get it with netscape on the linux side but not on the mac.  i just use
ncftp and all is well.

The is that when you first connect to the FTP site it always sends a
huge message listing dozens of websites.  The browsers are {*filter*} in
trying to display this.  Probably there's a bug in the FTP subroutines,
where not enough memory is allocated, or the allocation just isn't
expandable.

Very recently i've started to have the same problems, allways at linuxppc and suddenly i had it on some other ftp site too (don't remember which). I just thought to myself, using a web browser for ftp, must be like using a plector to play the violine, it just won't sound all that good :-)
