 MOL still not working
I think that you and I have the same problem---kernel too old for the current
MOL build (They suggest a 2.2.10 at a minimum).

Unfortunately, the only kernel I've found that'll boot my 400MHz PCI Graphics
G4 (B&W G3 like MB) is the 2.2.6 which I used for installation---I've tried a
fair number (2.2.13, G4, RG-default, ati128, ibook.14, ibook.9). Anyone having
any luck with this on this machine?

William

Have you tried compiling your own?

 MOL still not working
I am running linuxppc with kernel 2.2.14 on my 7200. I am trying to run
matlab on a Sparc machine running SunOS 5.6. I telnet to the sun
workstation and I want the graphic output displayed on my linux instead of
the sun workstation. So after I log onto sun workstation through telnet, I
ran

setenv DISPLAY bowtie.foods.uiuc.edu:0.0

that should transfer the output to my linux. unfortunately I was told that

Xlib: connection to "bowtie.foods.uiuc.edu:0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
Xlib: connection to "bowtie.foods.uiuc.edu:0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server

It seems Xlib need to set permission to the sun workstation, but I could
not find where it is and how to do it.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!

 MOL still not working

The sheep_net module at least didn't install (kernel version too old).

What would be the boot volume? Is it on sdb or hdb?

Did you wait some time, or kill the emulator immediately? But I've only
used up to 0.9.31, which works fine in X (even redirecting the display
to another box for kicks). Will try 0.9.39 soon.

 MOL still not working

Having installed and tested mol 0.9.39 in the meantime, I've seen the
solid black window now as well. It always popped up to inform me that
there was no video mode MOL could handle for X, and it went on to switch
to console #8 or #9, boot fine until the Finder starts up, then reset
the video to some insane setting forcing me to kill it. Fiddling with
the video mode (leave out the refresh rate and it won't be that picky)
helped to get MOL to start via X. But the display resize effect was
still there, just without the resulting display mess (the X window
shrinks down to perhaps 640x480 each time the finder starts). Other
minor hassle: the colors are wrong when I redirect the screen to a PC
display, and the keyboard input is completely mapped to nowhere (the
color mess I'd seen already while just forcing the 0.9.31 output to a
PC, the keymap mess is new).

Your message at the top of the black screen isn't about can't handle
video mode/switching to console so it's perhaps not finding the disks at
all.

on the machine who's Xserver you're connecting to you'll have to type
something like

xhost +<hostname>

where <hostname> is the host that has the Xclients running.

or you could just do

xhost +

which will allow any x client to connect to your machine. I'm not sure
how secure or anything this is.

It isn't. Anyone could open a window on your machine.  Worse, they
could do screen dumps, and I think even capture your keystrokes.

Slightly less insecure would be 'xhost + my-machine' (only random lusers
from my-machine can capture your keystrokes and other X events). Better:
get the .Xauthority from the user currently logged in on the X server.
Use e-mail, scp, ftp, whatever. Then do
'xauth merge xauthority-file'.

If you can use slogin to the sun, all of this should be forwarded
automagically.
