 Linux on my 7200?!
Hi people, well, I am struggling to get Linux running on my PPC 7200...

Here's what I do:

1 - Boot up from my OS9 CD
2 - Format my internal 1 gig HD with Drive set up with the 'preferred linux
PPC' partition set up
3 - Install a minimal OS9 system on my small MacOS partition on my 1gig
drive
4 - Reboot in to Mac OS9
5 - Run the Linux installer
6 - Reboot and select Linux in the BootX screen
7 - It seems to start booting (from the CD) and eventually puts me in to the
Linux GUI installer
8 - I go down the list of things to do in the installer, but every time I
re-boot it has a ton of errors (mainly that it can't find certain things) -
and then it goes in to the RedHat (non GUI) installer.

I am sure there is some crucial step I must be missing, so I am hoping one
of you guys could point it out to me and help me get to the next step.

Oh yeah, one more question:  I only seem to be able to get video output when
using my Mach 64 PCI card for video , but I get NOTHING when I use the 7200s
internal video... Is there a way to have Linux use the 7200 Built-In video
properly?  Thanks.

Just go straight into the RH installer. I never could get the X thing
to work worth a hill o' beans.

It is probably using the video card that MacOS is using. Have you switched
that to built-in video?

Is there a way to get in to the RH installer and avoid the X thing all
together?

Is there a control panel or something for this?  I just pull my ATI card and
assume that it will use what's available...

Thank you very much for your help!

Actually, I rather like the X Installer because, although the install
initially failed, by opening the Installer Output window (minimized by

fix it without rebooting.

Well, did you happen to write down what you did to make it work? I think
there may be more than one person out there who'd really appreciate
that...

Yes. On the bootX screen, where you have: ramdisk_size=8192
make it: ramdisk_size=8192 redhat

Yes. Pulling your ATI card is one way to do it, sure... :) I think the
control panel is called Monitors or, um, ah...Monitors and ???? (sound?).

 Linux on my 7200?!

I installed the Q3 release on my 7200 with built in video, I used a
seperate 1 gig drive and followed the instructions word for word that
were included on the CD.  My only problem was getting the syntax right
in pdisk but once I mastered that I had no trouble.  Now if you are
successful and you can mount the cdrom let me know, because that I have
been unable to accomplish
