 what kernel arg for Lombard G3 Powerbook 300 video?

The following is given in the BootX FAQ but does not work for me;
I get crazy colors and no action:

                video=atyfb:vmode:14,cmode:32,mclk:63,pll:135

omiting mclk:63 and or pll:135 changes nothing.

                vmode:17,cmode:16

makes for a black screen after some "discoloration".

passing no argument at all ("no video driver" unchecked)
causes no booting to happen -- is there a kernel that will auto-sense
the ATI Rage 128, my resident video?

I installed LinuxPPC 1999 from the MacOS Hard Drive and I'm aware that
some rpm's did not install -- but the kernel argument for video should
not produce video anomalies on booting, yes?  The machine works fine
with unaccelerated video when "no video driver" box is checked.  This
is PPCLinux Standard kernel, or 2.2.6-15appc on a Wallstreet G3
PowerBook 300, booted with BootX 1.1.3.

What kernel strings do others use, or where could I find this documented?

Thank you,

First of all, there is no Lombard 300. The Lombard (may 1999, bronze
keyboard) models start at 333. Are you asking about a Lombard or a
Wallstreet?

I'm using the Lombard kernel (version 2.2.12) and XF86Config on
http://www.loomer.com/linuxppc/

Note that the kernel arguments on that page have typos; it should be
video=atyfb:vmode:16,cmode:32,mclk:100

sorry, auto-suggestion. :)  I meant Wallstreet 300.

ok, I'll try mclk:100.

what exactly does one do with the XF86Config?

It goes in /etc/X11. (But only if you're using the XFree86 X server... I
still don't know how to tell which X server is set up to run, the way
LinuxPPC installs them.)

I'm using those kernel settings and XF86Config on a Lombard. I think the
URL I quoted has a separate section for setting up a Wallstreet display.

I have a Wallstreet (II) g3 233, with just a 12 inch display, which means
I have an ATI Rage LT - only 2 megs, right? Any idea what kernel args I
should use? Is it going to be much different from the lombard? Ive tried
using the same ones, varying their values, eliminating args, and all it
does is wreak havoc with my display ... this isn't good for it, I know....
It works fine with No Video checked ... but X is quite slow... Once I get
the kernel args right, what do I need to do to my XF86Config file to get
it accelerated? Is this even possible? Halp, please!

Thanks, Justin

Should not be much different, maybe use cmode:8 or cmode:16 for a try.
My Lombard doesn't
sync the display below a mclk of 65, looks a bit funny below 68 and is
fine up to 100. Hugh apparently needs to use 63, so there may be subtle
differences. Play around with mclk.

vmode 17 is for 1024x768, if your screen resolution is lower you need to
lower vmode too.
