Diald newbie on SUSE 6.4 PPC
Hi,

I would like to setup diald on my SUSE 6.4 for PowerPC. The manual speaks of
the possibility to configure it in YAST but I could find it therein. Can
anybody help? (Diald does get started at boot time, I cannot find it in
SysInitV (or what ever it's called).)

Thanks

Thiemo

Diald newbie on SUSE 6.4 PPC

In article <8kud94$81...@news1.sunrise.ch>, "Thiemo Kellner"

Hi,

I justed managed to configure Suse Linux 6.4 to establish a ppp connection with
my provider. My experience is:

Forget about all these frontends like kppp or wvdial. Create a chat script
as desribed
in the manual and start the connection with the ppp-up script.

BTW: I don't know what diald is ?  Yet another frontend for ppp connections ?

Cheers, Helge

I am using kppp without any problems

?

Not quite. It's a daemon that ought to dial into your ISP and bring up a ppp
connection when a service like http or ftp is required. I only roughly
understand the mechanics. Diald creates a slip interface (or maybe it has to
be already created) as a proxy where tcp packages are sent as default or
something. If the surveying diald notes activities on this interface it will
redirect it to the "normal" ppp, isdn or even slip after having connected to
the ISP by this "normal" interface. My problem is that I don't understand
the details (maybe not even the basics) and neither know enough of (SUSE)
linux to configure it and get it to work.
