 Desktop Environment general question.

I am starting to do some work in Linux that will eventually be ported to
Solaris and HP-UX.  I am a bit confused with all the desktop environments
available for Linux/UNIX.

I have read much of things on GNOME and still have some questions.

Can you point me to another web site that can help with obtaining more
information about desktop environments on various flavors of unices.

I have found that KDE runs on Solaris.  There is also the C(ommon)DE for
Solaris.  Are these compatible or will I have to compile separatly for each

I know nothing about HP-UX.  Is there a similar situation where more than
one DE can be used and if so, will I have to compile separately for each?

Typically, what is the default DE for Solaris?  For HP-UX?

For our HP-UX 10.20 the default is CDE.
