 CUPS configuration in KDE
I have a couple of computers, with different versions of Slackware 9 and Gentoo
(1.4rc, on one machine only) - all using KDE.
CUPS, which I have used in these and many more distribution variants, gives what
I want for printing. Nice - until recently.
After installing the newest versions of KDE (3.1.1 and 3.1.1a) I have had
problems with printing.  Local printing sometimes works, sometimes not (always
in Gentoo); and printing over the LAN does NOT work any more.
Also, now I cannot get to localhost:631 any more in Slack/KDE 3.1.1a - even root
is not permitted to access that resource.
The only pattern I have detected is that I get in trouble when the cups.conf
file has been generated by KDE.
If anyone else have had these or similar problems - how did you solve them? (and
of course, what did not work?)

Did you verify the cupsd daemon was running?

 CUPS configuration in KDE

There is a workaround:
Delete configuration files, and/or reload CUPS - if necessary.  When you get
access to localhost:631 delete your printer(s) and install them again _from
CUPS_.
Then you can print, at least locally.  I will NOT try to use the KDE 3.1.1a
print manager again!
