 Strange disk free space/used space...
Hi,
I seem to have lost a lot of disk space to no idea what: for example /boot
shows 25MB used, but when all files are listed the total is just 19MB;
/home - 500MB/362MB; /var - 600MB/417MB.
Any idea what is causing this, and how to rectify the problem.

If in doubt type format c:/u/autotest at DOS prompt... and install Linux

Yes I notice a difference between the du and df commands but not as great
as the ones you have. What commands and what options are you using?

-DU-...etc...

 Strange disk free space/used space...
On Friday 13 Sep 2002 15:46 in comp.os.linux.admin group someone called

The above figures came from X (KDE - diskfree and directory properties), du
is not very usefull on / :)
du/df figures follow:
Partition       DU      DF
/boot           19477   23591
/home           384760  417860
/var            459196  492004

Now, I looked at these figures and they do look much less dramatic then the
ones from gui, I guess it is a usual end of sector/block loss. Thanks for
reminding me about other tools (du/df) available.
