 ftp security for ISP
I would like to keep my users, once the have ftp'd in to upload their
homepages, from being able to wander around and look at other directories
than their own. Does anyone know of a way to restrict them to those
directories?

I am running wu-ftp. I don't run anonymous ftp. The structure is:
home/%U/html (/home/username/html

I want the users to not be able to escape from /home/username.

I would even prefer that once they login they went straight to
/home/username/html instead of /home/username, but that and the other
desired act I can't find any reference to in the various books, faqs, and
security pages I have read. any assistance is appreciated.

You need to chroot to that location. You do this via /etc/passwd. You can
set their login directory there as well.

Thanks. I am now reading man ftpaccess. I will dig deeper, it almost
seem like I have to manually edit the passwd file. This will be fun, I
already have about 4,000 users....

Still reading!
