Ahh, Basingstoke -- good place, spent 2 1/2 weeks there a few months ago
for some work relating to Sun servers.
Mostly worked in the telco companies area at Chineham Business Park, but
got to see some of the countryside, the town centre, Festival Place, use
the train, and so forth.
The RSC manual says that if this is not known, one will need to boot an
OS to run the rscadm utility to reset to known values:
http://www.**-**.com/
So... hmm. I think somebody is going to need to hook up a DB-25 cable to
Serial Port A (bottom left DB-25 port on the rear) and do even a minimal
OS install, and then install SUNWrsc & co., and reset the RSC config.
Hopefully the console has not been redirected to the RSC card.
If *that* is so, one might take the RSC card out and hope system then
leaves Serial Port A output alone, long enough to at least do an OS
install.
If that isn't so, then one should see output when connected to port A at
power-on and take care of things from there.
You really only need someone to do brief one-time on-site work before
configuring the RSC for remote access.
Perhaps the fastest way to get going quickly, once you have a working
serial console, may be to pop in the Solaris 9 Update 8 (09/05) DVD, do
a minimal install, reboot, then install RSC 2.2.3 from the
SW_Supp_CD/RSC_2.2.3 directory on the DVD. All that shouldn't take more
than a half hour at most. (Assuming you can get serial console working.)
