 redirected stdout?

I need help with a problem on my x86 Solaris system.

It seems that I may have redirected my stdout to the serial port.  This
happened while setting up that port for a bi-directional modem during an
Admintool session.

Symptom:

When the machine enters the UNIX environment it defaults to a desktop
login.  This times out in 5 seconds.  Once timeout has occurred, I
assume the machine goes to the desktop login because the screen goes
blank.

Is there any other way around this?  I don't wish to go through a
re-install.
Can I break into the script at that point to receive a prompt?

Any ideas are appreciated.
