 can't umount, busy

Hiyas,
        I'm using solaris x86 2.5.  Once in a while, I get problems
umounting the 3.5" disk, it comes back with a "/mnt is busy" message.
However, nothing I know of is using /mnt or in /mnt (I mounted it
just to copy a file over, and it has finished copying the file).
What else can I do to umount the thing?  mounted with
-F pcfs /dev/diskette /mnt
        Thanx in advance.

The first thing to check for are windows / apps that are displaying the
contents of /floppy/floppy0.  For example, if you have a terminal session
where the cwd is /floppy/floppy0, the busy message will appear.  cd out of
that directory and everything should be fine.

Use fuser(1M) to try and figure out what is holding it up... also look
into a better utility called lsof located at: ftp://vic.cc.purdue.edu
in the pub/tools/unix/lsof directory.

Did you "cd /mnt"?  It may be complaining that you are still in that
working directory.  Also check that you have not spawn any child procs
while you were in that directory.  I don't recall if that would cause
any problems, I've always been able to resolve an unmount problem by
closing as much unnecessary xterms (or whatever) as I can so nothing
is lingering.

Hope this helps....

While pretending to be roadkill on the InfoBahn, <b...@nospam.lau-net.ml.org> scrawled:

*eesh*  Thanx to everyone who replied.  This is embarrassing,
I think I started out in sh, mounted the disk, cd /mnt, did some stuff,
wanted bash, started bash, did some other stuff, and forgot all about
the original sh in /mnt.  *sigh*
Anyway, now I have another question.  My system is Titan3 mother
board, 48M Ram, 4M Matrox.  When I run CDE, I bring up control panel,
screen, and select the screen savers (they'd be highlighted, inverse),
done, ok, and it should work right?  Never did for me.  I can change
backgrounds, etc, change time for screen savers, but no matter what
I do, the only thing I get is a blank screen for a screen saver.  I'm
currently using that 1.2 beta from Sun.  Solaris 2.5 x86 and all the
recommended patches as of July 1st, DU9 (never had to touch the vidset
tho... hmm?)
If you guys have any suggestions, thanx in advance!!

t...@bbo.memphis.edu spewed forth some drivel on 16 Jul 1997 16:56:03 GMT:

The source of your problem may be that you have a shell in that volume.
Check to make sure the current directory in all of the open shells is
not on the floppy.
