Basic networking question - Solaris 9 Sparc
Hi

Trying to reconfigure Solaris 9 on a Sparc5 - the Sparc I've just bought
came with it preinstalled.

Which files (besides /etc/hosts) do I need to edit to tell it the IP address
of the router, DNS, subnet mask etc?

Cheers
Rob

Your entry in /etc/hosts needs to have a corresponding /etc/hostname.le0
(le0 for the onboard interface on a Sparc) that contains whatever
hostname you want for that interface.

eg:

/etc/hosts contains

        192.168.0.1     pluto

/etc/hostname.le0 containts

        pluto

As for DNS, you need an /etc/resolv.conf containing

nameserver 192.168.0.10  - or whatever your DNS server is.

The list is at the bottom of the man page for sys-unconfig(1M).

The best way to configure the system is to execute that utility.

Thanks but this hasn't got it picking up the router properly.   It's now on
my LAN i.e. I can telnet to it, but it doesn't resolve properly - some
problem with resolv.conf?

Cheers
