ulimit does not increase the datasegment limit to 4gb.

Hi Guys,

We have been facing problems on a Solaris 2.51 system here. When we try
to run an application on an Ultra2 with 1.2gb RAM with swap as :

/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s1   32,1      16 3074432 3046656
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3   32,3      16 3074432 3041952

We get process out of memory errors. Even though we can still, at the
same time, run other processes. We believe, and correct me if I am
wrong, that this is because we had the following setup:

/ > ulimit -a
time(seconds)        unlimited
file(blocks)         unlimited
data(kbytes)         2097148
stack(kbytes)        8192
coredump(blocks)     unlimited
nofiles(descriptors) 64
vmemory(kbytes)      unlimited

We changed it to

:/ > ulimit -a
time(seconds)        unlimited
file(blocks)         unlimited
data(kbytes)         unlimited
stack(kbytes)        8192
coredump(blocks)     unlimited
nofiles(descriptors) 64
vmemory(kbytes)      unlimited

Even this did not help. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Regds,

Deepak
