 Floating point exception when using TOP

Exactly. The information top is reading from /proc has changed in the
meantime (since the time Slackware 3.0 went out), so you'll need to
fetch a recent procps suite from the sunsite or elsewhere, and reinstall
it. You may consider reinstall your slackware to version 3.3 as well, as
it gets old now. This will save you time later.
