 cdrecord -scanbus doesn't work
Whenever I try to run this it gives

cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you
are root.

I do have a scsi cdrom which I can use to read discs but I can't get
discs to burn on them. cd-burning did used to work on this disc but it
doesn't work now. I am also running as root. Why doesn't it work
anymore?

 cdrecord -scanbus doesn't work
On 5 Feb 2002 13:59:21 -0800, Space Cowboy staggered into the Black Sun
and said:

You posted this 4 times.  Don't do that.  We heard you the first time.

"CD-ROM" means "device that can read data CDs".  "CD-RW" means "device
that can read data CDs, burn CD-Rs, and burn CD-RWs".  If you really
have a SCSI CD-ROM, then you will not be able to burn anything.  If you
have a SCSI CD-RW, you misspoke.

If it worked previously, and it doesn't work now, the obvious question
is, "What did you change?"  Please try to find the answer to that
question and post it.  It could be something like "Updated distro from
Mandrake 7.2 to Mandrake 8.1" or "compiled and installed 2.4.17 kernel",
but it would be useful to have somewhere to start.

Other obvious question:  Is the sg module loaded?  If sg is not loaded,
load it, and then cdrecord -scanbus will work.  Really, sg should be
automatically loaded when any process attempts to access char-major-21 ,
but some distros don't set up modules.conf to do this for some reason.
