 SCSI Data Parity Error Detected
Hi !

I noticed huge amount of the following messages in my /var/log/messages

address or write data phase

The system is running OK w/o performance or stability problems. Just what
does it mean. SCSI device
is Adaptec 2940. There is only 1 device attached - SCSI CD ROM

I don't know if this is your problem, but often SCSI problems are caused
by improper termination.  Check that the jumpers on the CD drive are
properly set for termination according to the specifications of the
Adaptec card.  Also check the cable and make sure it is firmly seated at
both ends.   Have you done anything inside the computer which could
loosen the cable.   If nothing else works, you might consider replacing
the cable.  Cables can be damaged if you pull on them to get them out of
their plugs.

Also, how old is this system?   The drive could be failing.

Finally, there could be something wrong with the Adaptec card itself.
Try  pulling it out and reseating it.

A 2940 is ultra, and the drive terminators will NOT be
good enough. Use a proper terminator on the cable.
