 SuSe cover disk problem
I'm having a major problem with the SuSe coverdisk from PC Plus - it
boots (bootable CD) but I cannot get it to recognise my Adaptec
2940UW.

Caldera Open Linux recognises it fine, but doesn't recognise my
graphics card (Matrox Mystique), which I believe SuSe does.

Warning: I'm an almost complete newbie at Linux.

Hit the send button too early there - as per p103 of the manual, I
have tried using the 'extended' parameter which makes no difference,
and the 'no_reset' parameter which results in a hang. The best I've
had it was with no parameters and it kept coming up with a message
which I wasn't able to log, but was along the lines of 'Bus reset
timed out, trying harder...' I think I also saw a reset time of 32
ms, but it scrolled past too quickly.

Any help would be most welcome.

I've got SuSE 5.3.  It also allows selection of older drivers for
Adaptec 2940UW et al.  That's what I needed to get mine running.  Red
Hat did not show these at install time.

XFree 3.3.2 has support for Matrox cards incl. I think the Mystique.
(XFree86 is a free version of 'X11 Windows' that distributions such
as RedHat come with, and presumable as does Caldera Open Linux as
well.)

The version of Caldera Open Linux that you have probably runs XFree
(I gather that Caldera is basically similar to RedHat in many
accounts) but has a version of XFree that is too old for the newer
Matrox driver support.  I think it only came in with version 3.3.2.
You could run Caldera Open Linux and just upgrade the version of
XFree86?

I'm that much of a newbie that I don't know how to do this - an
explanation would be most welcome.
