
Xvidtune/xvidtune assistance needed.....
Hmm. You should get a report of the current specs in your xterm, but
you should also get a nice little dialog that reminds you that this is
dangerous stuff (particularly for fixed frequency monitors).
In fact, you should be running xvidtune as root . . .
All of the files in app-defaults are global "option" files.
Uncommenting things here without having the docs in hand is not
necessarily the smartest thing to do, as some of them are not
self-documenting.
I'm not sure what you've done at this point. If possible, you might
just want to start with a clean slate and reinstall xvidtune from your
distribution or source. Then try running it as root.
BTW, if you don't start X as root, make sure you export $DISPLAY or
you'll get another error message. In bash, just type "export
DISPLAY=:0.0".
Try "startx -- -bpp 24" (or 16 or 32, depending on what is supported by
and for your hardware).
Gee, I wouldn't call it "stock" if you've updated some of the packages.
