 Vexira MailArmor on FreeBSD
There's a lot of talk on comp.mail.sendmail at the moment
about Vexira, which seems to be generally well regarded.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone whose using their
MailArmor for FreeBSD product.

I downloaded an eval, but it doesn't seem to be particularly
FreeBSD friendly. They want you to put things in /etc,
/usr/lib, /usr/bin and so on, rather than under /usr/local/
as is the FreeBSD way for add-ons.

I really prefer to keep the base system clean and separated
from the add-ons so this puts me off.

However it looks like it might be possible to install it as
one would like so long as there are no hard-coded paths in
the executables. If anyone has tried this, please say before
I potentially waste time trying it.

Jim we have Vexira MailArmor up and running on FreeBSD. It took some
configuring but it is well work the very little effort that it takes. We
saved a lot of $$$ using it and the software works very well.  You can
specify the paths you use in the vamailarmor.conf file. Look for "SpoolDir
/var/spool/vamailarmor" and "VexiraDir  /usr/lib/Vexira." You can define
your own paths. We bought 4 unlimited licenses for Vexira MailArmor and
saved so much money compared to other antiviruses it was not even funny.

BTW we have not had a single virus get past Vexira MailArmor yet since
setup. Not a single virus has been able to go through to our desktops!

Vexira works very good with sendmail/freebsd/milter. We have it setup and
bouncing a hundreds of viruses each day. You'll find the configuration paths
in the vamailarmor.conf file. What I like best about vexira is that once we
set it up we have not have to tinker with it at all for now 3 months! It
auto updates and upgrades itself for both the virus databases and virus
scanner. I have used other virus filters for sendmail and none are as easy
to use and administer (free or commercial).

Yeah, I read the full thread and guess what? The accusations are full of
sh*t. Many people from many different usenet services using different
readers posted responses to the Vexira thread. It seems that you have a
personal campaign against Vexira. I think you need to get a life and move
on.

I use Vexira and I am glad I do. Vexira is a very cost effective antivirus
product for Sendmail and it is doing exactly what I expect it to. It has not
allowed a single virus to enter our mail system since we installed it and I
have not had to tweak it at all. Updates to the virus dats and virus scanner
are seamless and fast.

I am sick and tired of people like you with a personal vendetta against a
particularly good product. I use and recommend Vexira everyday to anyone who
asks.
