what does each cvsup example file grab?
ports - ports (duh!)
doc - docs (duh)
cvs - ?
stable - 4.8 (or 4.7)?
standard - 5.0 release?

I'm wondering what I'd need to do to get the current branch?  TIA.

See the README file in that examples directory.

Remember to subscribe to the -CURRENT mailing list if you're going to
run the bleeding edge.

In article <b51qgf$8u...@news.eecs.umich.edu>,
        shaggy <a...@asdf.net> writes:

The entire FreeBSD cvs repository.  You can use cvs to
checkout all versions of 4.x and 5.x.  IIRC, this is
several GB.

stable-supfile should pick up the 4.x branch.

standard-supfile picks up the bleeding edge,
is FreBSD-current.

There is no branching of ports. Everyone uses the same ports
tree (-STABLE and -CURRENT)

Not sure about this one... there may be separate
branches for -CURRENT and -STABLE.

This must be cvsup'ng the entire cvs repository.
Probably not useful unless you are a developer or
mirroring the repository (ie if you have a large
network of machines you want to keep up-to-date)

Both (at some point ;o) -STABLE I would consider to be the
cutting edge (as opposed to the bleeding edge of -CURRENT)
If you build -STABLE right now, you will get something along
the lines of 4.8-RC1. Eventually it will be 4.8-RELEASE.

This one I am not familiar with.

From the handbook:
http://www.FreeBSD.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/cvsup.html

For our example, we wish to receive FreeBSD-CURRENT.
We add this line at the beginning of our supfile:

         *default tag=.
