 Updating users password via code?

I'm fairly new to coding on a Solaris system and have a question
that I hope someone can help me with.
I wrote C code to retrieve a users encrypted password from the NIS+
password table and am able to encrypt and compare encrypted passwords
(not really too difficult, thanks for the help) but now I need to
know....  How do I take an encrypted password and write it to the NIS+
password file?  I guess I'm really looking for the C call to
accomplish this.  I have searched the manuals exhaustively and can not
find it.
Thank you to all who reply
